Ninja Sizzle Pro XL vs Sizzle: Is the Bigger Indoor Grill Worth It?

Both reach 500°F. The Pro XL buys more cooking room and digital controls, not a hotter maximum. Choose by your usual batch size and available counter space.

The Ninja Sizzle Pro XL vs Sizzle decision is mostly about how much food you want ready together. This comparison covers the US GX101 Pro XL in Silver and GR101 in Grey/Silver, not their UK or European versions. The larger model is a 2025 US release; it is not a brand-new 2026 grill.

Quick verdict

Choose the Sizzle GR101 for smaller everyday batches. It already offers grill and flat-top plates with a 500°F maximum. If your usual breakfast or dinner fits, the Pro XL is not an essential upgrade.

Choose the Pro XL GX101 when the smaller plate forces repeat batches. More cooking room and digital temperature/time controls are its clearest advantages. You need space for the larger appliance and for washing its plates. Neither is an air fryer, a two-zone griddle or a promise of smoke-free cooking.

Capacity: buy room for your usual meal

Ninja claims the GX101 has 40% more cooking surface than GR101. Do not turn the 20-inch versus 14-inch labels into an area calculation: length alone does not describe the usable plate.

Our buying test is simple: think about the actual pancakes, burgers or vegetables you want ready together. If the smaller plate already fits that meal without crowding, extra area will not save a batch. If you routinely cook two rounds while the first cools, the Pro XL has a practical reason to exist.

Both grill and griddle — but not simultaneously

Actual GX101 package imagery shows the flat plate fitted and the alternative ridged grill plate separately. Swap the plates; this is not a split grill-and-griddle cooking surface. Manufacturer imagery: SharkNinja.

Both listed packages include a ridged grill plate and a flat griddle plate. Choose the flat surface for eggs and pancakes, or the ridged plate for foods where grill marks and drainage matter. They are interchangeable, not two independently controlled halves.

The Pro XL’s ProTemp IQ and digital display provide a different control interface, but both models have the same advertised maximum. Ninja’s more-even-heating claim for GX101 uses a Blackstone comparator; it is not a controlled demonstration that GX101 beats GR101. We did not find a reliable exact-model head-to-head test establishing that result.

What independent tests say about heat and smoke

TechGearLab’s Kaylee Walden found the original Sizzle especially consistent across its cooking surface, while noting some smoke when charring at high heat. Real Homes also liked the GR101’s cooking results and reported no smoke in its own tests. Different food, fat and settings help explain why one experience is not a universal guarantee.

That is a useful reason to keep a working GR101: there is evidence it can cook well already. It is also a reason to treat “smokeless” cautiously. Ninja itself says GR101 smoke output varies with the meat and fat percentage. Use appropriate kitchen ventilation and follow the model’s cooking guidance rather than expecting the lid to remove every trace of smoke.

Storage and cleanup can decide the purchase

Ninja lists GX101 at approximately 20.83 inches wide and 15.22 inches deep. Measure the working counter, lid-opening space, storage shelf and sink before ordering. Two interchangeable plates also need a home when one is not fitted.

Treat the cooking plates as hand-wash items and follow the supplied care instructions. Ninja’s GX101 product expert on Best Buy says its plates are not dishwasher-safe, while its slotted lid is. Do not read a generic “dishwasher safe” listing label as permission to put the electrical base or every component in the dishwasher.

Check the current Amazon offer for the exact US model. The premium is worthwhile when extra capacity solves repeated cooking rounds; for occasional larger meals, keeping the smaller grill may be better value. The linked appliances use US electrical specifications: a local UK/EU version can have a different plug, supply rating and warranty.

Who should upgrade — and who should skip it?

Upgrade to Pro XL for frequent larger breakfasts, burgers or meal-prep batches, provided it fits your kitchen. Buy or keep GR101 when its cooking area covers your normal meal and you prefer simpler controls.

Skip both if your priority is air frying or automatic food-doneness control. A temperature setting controls the cooking surface; it does not measure the centre of your food. For an oven-style air-frying alternative, see our Ninja French Door vs Flip comparison.

Research notes

Research checked October 26, 2026. Decively has not physically tested these grills. Specifications and heating claims come from Ninja; GR101 cooking observations are attributed to independent reviewers. No controlled GX101-versus-GR101 performance test was found.
