A verified example, not a global threshold: the euro-denominated campaign we reviewed specified €8–€1,000 across up to six available gifts, with the target depending on the selected reward, and one star per €1 spent. It also had a 72-hour star-collection window after the first completed order. Those figures do not guarantee a gift for €8 or the same conditions in another market.
Who counts as a new Temu user?
Start with the definition in the activity you actually see. Temu's official guidance says available new-user incentives and qualifying requirements vary by market and campaign. Our linked offer opened an app-user promotion; the rules also described additional conditions if that version is restricted to new app users.
In the version we reviewed, a new-user-only activity requires a real person who downloads the app, signs in on the device, activates the activity within 24 hours of the first download on that device and has never purchased on Temu before. This is an example of a campaign definition, not a universal definition covering every Temu promotion. Creating another account is not a substitute for eligibility.
Participants must also live in an eligible country and be at least 18, or the local age of majority if higher. Let the actual activity page confirm whether you qualify before building a basket around the reward.
A worked example: three different deadlines
These are the clocks specified in the euro-denominated offer we reviewed. Its first two deadlines apply only when that activity is restricted to new app users. Its third covers star collection. Use your local activity's rules and timer if they differ.

How to check the gift offer before your first order
1. Open the actual campaign
Use the campaign link, then read the eligibility and rules before accepting the activity. Temu’s supplied share copy also lists code alq324392. If you use that code in the app, confirm that the resulting activity is the same gift offer.
2. Choose the gift before choosing the basket
Look at its exact spending or star target, availability and deadline. A photo and a €0 label do not tell you the full cost of qualifying.
3. Build a basket you would buy anyway
Compare the selected variants, seller information, delivery estimate and final delivered total. Check whether the app imposes a separate minimum order.
4. Verify redemption and keep a record
Save the activity’s terms, selected reward and confirmation. Check that the gift has actually been redeemed or added as instructed; do not assume placing an order completes every step.
Does a €0 gift actually save you money?
It can be a useful extra when you were already planning an eligible purchase. It becomes a different decision when you add items only to reach the target. Those extra items are part of the cost of getting the reward.
A hypothetical example: suppose you planned to buy €20 of items and your selected gift required €35 of qualifying spending. You would need an extra €15 of purchases, before any additional fees. That is an illustration of the calculation—not an actual Temu gift threshold or advertised price.
Compare the additional spend with what you would willingly pay for the gift elsewhere. Use a realistic value to you, rather than a crossed-out reference price. If the gift is something you would never otherwise buy, its value to your household may be close to zero.

Additional purchases made only for the reward + any extra delivery or import fees = the added cost to consider. A €0 gift label does not make that cost disappear.

Our view: treat the gift as a bonus to a sensible purchase. It should not be the reason you ignore a poor price, an unsuitable item or a condition you cannot meet.
What happens if you cancel or return an order?
Under the reviewed campaign rules, a cancellation or refund that changes your qualifying spending can trigger a recalculation of reward eligibility. A reward order that has not shipped may be cancelled if you no longer meet its requirements.
There is an important exception: the rules say refunds or cancellations caused by Temu or the seller, including product-quality problems, do not affect reward eligibility. Do not assume every refund has the same result.
Return windows, exceptions and return-shipping charges can also vary by location and item. Open Temu's return and refund policy for your country and read the product's own terms. Do not assume a headline such as “90-day returns” guarantees free returns for every item, every return or every market.
