MARY AT DECIVELY

Hi, I’m Mary.

A developer by profession. The person with 20 tabs open before buying anything.

Before I buy anything, from headphones to a monitor arm, I’ve usually read the manual, compared the versions and looked through the negative reviews. I want to know what might frustrate me once the initial excitement wears off.

That’s the habit I bring to Decively: finding the details that can change a buying decision and explaining them clearly.

The details that make a difference

Working as a developer has taught me to look at how something works, what it works with and where its limitations lie.

In my guide to monitor arms for small desks, for example, I look at the screen’s weight, the mounting point and the clearance behind the desk. An arm that looks right in the photos can still leave the screen too close to you.

In my Ninja PREPi article, I consider whether the dicing kit suits the way you cook, along with the attachments you’ll need to clean and store.

I want you to have that picture before you buy, even if you decide that what you already own does the job.

What I cover at Decively

Technology, work and the connected home. Computers, monitors, headphones, smartwatches, tablets, e-readers, desk accessories, Wi-Fi and smart home devices. My focus is compatibility and when an upgrade is worth it.

Everyday appliances. Floor care, air purifiers, kitchen and coffee appliances, and hair styling tools. What fits your needs, how much space it takes, and what it needs in maintenance and replacement supplies.

AI, creator tools and online shopping. The features, costs and limitations of digital tools, alongside practical guides to product versions, bundles and offers on Amazon or Temu.

How I approach my articles

I start with a specific need and gather the information that helps with the decision. I use official instructions and specifications, independent tests and user reports, making clear what each source supports.

I distinguish research-based articles from those drawing on personal use. A single complaint isn’t enough to call something a widespread problem, and gaps in the evidence need to be acknowledged.

I aim to explain the benefits and the trade-offs together. The most expensive model isn’t always the right choice, and the lowest price doesn’t necessarily mean the lowest overall cost.

I also use AI tools to help prepare and organise content, checking information against its sources. I remain responsible for what is published under my name and for correcting it.
