The Samsung Galaxy Buds4 vs Buds4 Pro decision starts with one question: do you want silicone ear tips? Both are 2026 earbuds with ANC and Galaxy features, but their different fits change the sound, comfort and usefulness of noise cancelling.
Quick verdict: choose the fit first
Choose Galaxy Buds4 Pro for commuting, stronger noise isolation and fuller, more consistent bass—provided sealed tips suit you. Choose Galaxy Buds4 if you specifically prefer an unsealed fit and listen mostly in quieter places. At a small price gap, Pro is the stronger all-round purchase; a discount on Buds4 does not change its open-fit limitations.

Fit and ANC: open comfort or a proper seal?
Generated editorial illustration of listening situations, not product photography or a Decively noise-cancelling test.
Buds4 rest in the outer ear without replaceable silicone tips. That can suit people who dislike a plugged-ear sensation and want more background sound audible. However, their fixed shape gives you fewer ways to adjust the fit. Pro includes three tip sizes to help create a seal.
RTINGS finds Pro substantially better at noise isolation and more stable for exercise. The seal blocks some sound before ANC adds its effect. Both say ANC on the box; that does not mean they deliver similar quiet on a train or in an office.
Comfort is personal. SoundGuys reviewer Adam Birney found Buds4 shifted during use, while some ears will prefer the absence of tips. Choose Buds4 because the format works for you, rather than assuming an open design automatically feels better.
The differences worth paying attention to
| Buying factor | What changes |
|---|---|
| Sound hardware | Buds4: one-way speaker and single amplifier. Pro: enhanced two-way speakers and dual amplifiers. Fit and tuning still matter more than a driver count alone. |
| Water and dust | Buds4 earbuds: IP54 splash protection. Pro earbuds: IP57. Neither charging case has this protection; neither model is intended for swimming. |
| Controls and extras | Both have pinch/swipe controls and supported Galaxy head gestures. Pro adds Voice/Siren Detect and hands-free voice commands, subject to device/setup requirements. |
| Charging | Both support USB-C and wireless case charging. Check the included accessories; the US Pro box does not include a charger or USB-C cable. |
RTINGS describes Buds4 as brighter and lighter in bass, while Pro has a fuller, darker balance. Both offer EQ. EQ can adjust your preference, but cannot make an unstable open fit behave like a sealed earbud. Pro's advantage is consistency and isolation, not a promise that everyone will prefer its default tuning.
Battery life: Pro gives you about an extra hour
| Evidence | Buds4 versus Buds4 Pro |
|---|---|
| Samsung claim, ANC on | Buds4: up to 5 hours, or 24 hours including the case. Pro: up to 6 hours, or 26 hours including the case. |
| Samsung claim, ANC off | Buds4: up to 6 hours per charge. Pro: up to 7 hours. Both quote up to 30 hours including the case with ANC off. |
| SoundGuys standardized tests | Buds4: 4 hours 56 minutes. Pro: 6 hours 1 minute. These are playback results, not talk-time figures. |
RTINGS separately reports about 4.5 hours for Buds4, illustrating normal differences between test methods. The useful conclusion is that Pro offers longer listening between case breaks. Neither model's case-inclusive total means uninterrupted all-day playback. Volume, calls, settings and battery age affect your result.
Check your phone before paying for Galaxy features
On a compatible Galaxy phone: both offer Samsung-specific audio and integration. Head gestures, translation and high-resolution audio are not automatically Pro-only benefits. Samsung's compatibility chart ties head gestures to One UI 8.5 or later; 24-bit/96kHz audio requires a supported Galaxy model. Check your exact phone rather than just its Android version.
On another Android phone: Galaxy Wearable provides settings, EQ and updates. Samsung currently requires Android 12 or later and at least 1.5GB RAM. Several premium functions—including Samsung high-resolution audio, 360 Audio and Galaxy AI integrations—remain device-dependent or unavailable.
On iPhone: both play music and take calls over Bluetooth, but Galaxy Wearable is not available on iOS. Some settings can carry over after Android setup; you cannot assume the same configuration access from the iPhone. Samsung Auto Switch is also not ordinary phone-and-laptop multipoint across brands.
Calls and everyday ownership: the Pro name is not a guarantee
SoundGuys praises Buds4 microphone noise rejection, but RTINGS finds its noisy-background handling can distort speech. These tests disagree, so buying Pro solely for supposedly perfect calls is not justified. SoundGuys also notes that Pro microphone performance depends on correct fitting and can struggle in wind.
Birney found the Buds4 clear case lid picked up marks quickly. That is one reviewer's experience, not proof of a widespread failure. Check returns, replacement-tip availability for Pro and local warranty support before buying either model.
When should you buy the cheaper Buds4?
Buy Buds4 when you already know open-fit earbuds stay comfortable and secure in your ears, mostly listen in quieter places, and can save meaningfully. Many Galaxy conveniences are shared. Skip them if your main goal is shutting out commuting noise or keeping strong bass consistent while moving.
When are Buds4 Pro worth the extra?
Pay more for Pro when stronger isolation, adjustable tips and roughly an extra hour between recharges address your daily use. At similar prices, Pro is our editorial pick for someone comfortable with a sealed fit. If silicone tips bother you, those performance gains do not make them the right fit.
