The best air purifiers for homes with pets should fit the room, run at a noise level you can live with, and have filters you can afford to replace. These three Levoit and Coway models make different trade-offs: more airflow, easier fur cleanup, or simpler controls.
Quick verdict: Levoit or Coway for your pet home?
Start with the Vital 200S-P for a larger room and app control. Choose Vital Pet Pro when easier pre-filter upkeep matters more than maximum room coverage. Compare the Coway Mighty if you prefer physical buttons and its current price is meaningfully lower.

| Model | Useful sizing comparison |
|---|---|
| Levoit Vital Pet Pro | 229 sq ft / 21 m² Listed CADR: 148 CFM. |
| Levoit Vital 200S-P | 388 sq ft / 36 m² Listed CADR: 250 CFM. |
| Coway Mighty AP-1512HH | 361 sq ft / 34 m² Smoke CADR: 233 CFM. |
The larger 1,100–1,875 sq ft marketing figures describe roughly one air change per hour. They are not equivalent to repeated cleaning of a pet room. Measure the whole connected area, allow more capacity for high ceilings, and remember that lower fan speeds deliver less clean air.
For a room near 400 sq ft, the Vital 200S-P has the most headroom of these three—but none should be treated as a whole-home solution. EPA guidance sizes particle filtration by CADR and the actual space served.
What each purifier is worth buying for
Levoit Vital 200S-P: more airflow, with smart control
This is our starting recommendation for a larger pet room. Its removable washable pre-filter is easy to access, and VeSync adds schedules and remote settings. HouseFresh’s smoke-particle test reached its PM1 endpoint in 23 minutes at maximum speed, versus 26 minutes for the Coway with its ionizer enabled, in the same 728-cubic-foot test space. That is particle testing, not a pet-odor result.
The compromise is manual pre-filter cleaning. Choose it for cleaning capacity and controls, rather than expecting the purifier to collect hair already settled on your furniture.
Levoit Vital Pet Pro: less routine fur cleanup
The Pet Pro’s scraper moves captured debris into a removable tray, and its particle and TVOC sensors add automated control. The tray still needs emptying; the main filter still needs replacing. RTINGS found it suited to small and medium rooms and measured about 141 CFM of PM1 clean-air delivery at maximum speed—close to Levoit’s 148 CFM rating.
Pay for this convenience when shedding repeatedly loads the pre-filter. Do not choose it over the 200S-P for a larger open-plan room. Its quietest Sleep mode is accessed through the app.
Coway Mighty AP-1512HH: straightforward controls
The white AP-1512HH(W) has Auto and Eco modes, a washable pre-filter and a replaceable particle/deodorization filter set. It is a practical choice when you do not want an app. The separate ionizer can be switched off; HouseFresh’s particle test took 29 minutes with it disabled, compared with 26 minutes enabled.
At similar purchase prices, the 200S-P offers more listed airflow and smart features. The Coway becomes more attractive when discounted and when you prefer its simpler controls. This link is for the original Mighty, not the newer Mighty2 or Wi-Fi-equipped HHS.
Quiet operation means less cleaning output
Do not compare a Sleep-mode decibel claim with maximum-speed room coverage. Manufacturer ranges are 21–53 dB for Pet Pro, 23–54 dB for 200S-P and 24–53 dBA for Coway; different measurement conditions limit direct comparisons.
At three feet, HouseFresh measured the Vital 200S at 57.7 dBA on its highest setting and the Coway at 60.1 dBA. Those are clearly audible fan speeds. RTINGS also found that quieter Pet Pro settings reduce its effective room capacity. Buy enough capacity to avoid relying on the loudest setting all evening; do not assume Sleep mode cleans a large room at full-rated output.
Filters: the cost that continues after checkout
Illustration using generic filters: clearing captured fur is routine upkeep; the main and carbon filters still need replacement. Follow the instructions for your model.
| Model | Replacement budget |
|---|---|
| Levoit Vital Pet Pro | Vital Pet / Pet Pro filter: $49.99. Filter page recommends 6–8 months: about $75–$100/year annualized. |
| Levoit Vital 200S-P | Standard Vital 200S filter: $49.99. Recommended 6–12 months: about $50–$100/year annualized. |
| Coway Mighty AP-1512HH | Compatible Mighty/200M set: $64.99. One particle filter plus two deodorization filters: about $65/year on the stated schedule. |
These estimates exclude electricity, tax, delivery and specialist filter upgrades. They annualize replacements rather than counting the filter included with a new purifier. Heavy shedding or persistent odors can shorten useful life; prices can change.
Pet Pro’s product FAQ recommends six-month replacement, while its filter page gives 6–8 months, so budget toward the upper end. For Coway, verify the model and serial-code compatibility: the AP-1512HHS uses a different set. Wash only the pre-filter when the manual permits it—not the particle/carbon filter.

Pet dander, fur and odors are different jobs
Particle filtration can capture airborne dander and some floating fur. It does not lift settled hair from sofas or floors. For broader dust context, read what air purifiers actually do for dust.
Illustrative scene: an air purifier does not lift settled fur from a sofa. Vacuuming and surface cleaning are still needed alongside airborne-particle filtration.
Odor control depends on the carbon filter and the gases involved. CADR measures particle removal, not odor removal. Levoit’s Pet Pro odor-reduction figures come from a chamber test with a specific compound; they are not a guarantee for every litter box or dog bed. None of these three has been independently proven here to be the strongest odor remover.
EPA guidance treats filtration as a supplement to removing pollution sources and appropriate ventilation. Expect help with airborne particles and some odors, rather than guaranteed allergy relief or a substitute for cleaning the odor source.
Which one should you choose?
For a larger pet room, choose the Vital 200S-P unless its price premium is substantial. For a smaller room where pre-filter fur cleanup is the recurring annoyance, the Vital Pet Pro offers the more useful convenience feature. For app-free operation at a good discount, choose the Coway Mighty.
