The TYMO CurlPro vs CurlPro Plus decision is mainly about how much hair needs to fit around the heated barrel. In this comparison, both have a 1-inch diameter. Plus adds heating length and an extra heating surface; it is not simply a larger-diameter curler for looser waves.

Quick verdict

Choose CurlPro for medium-length hair and a lower-cost first automatic curler. It makes sense when you can comfortably work in small sections and do not need the Plus chamber’s extra room.

Choose CurlPro Plus for longer hair, especially when sections crowd the original. Pay for that extra capacity rather than expecting universally better curl hold. For very short cuts or curls starting at the roots, neither is an obvious first choice.

Why the longer barrel matters

A longer heating area gives longer strands more room to wrap. The important distinction is length versus diameter: the 1-inch Plus is still a 1-inch curler. A larger Plus diameter is a different purchase, and neither version is a wet-to-dry air styler.

Counting To Ten’s TYMO-partnered comparison found the original more useful on the reviewer’s shorter hair, while her long-haired daughter preferred Plus. She bought Plus and received CurlPro for review. This supports choosing by hair length, but it is one family’s experience, not a controlled laboratory comparison.

The reviewer also questioned whether TYMO’s 66 mm figure matched the visible heated area. Treat the published figures as manufacturer specifications, not independently verified ruler measurements.

Which one fits your routine?

CurlPro: buy it when the original already fits

Best for someone who wants repeatable curls without manually wrapping a wand. Shopping Trends’ Valérie Sardin found the 1-inch original suited her medium-length hair, but noted a learning curve positioning it in a mirror and extra sectioning for long, thick hair.

If that describes an occasional styling routine and CurlPro costs meaningfully less, the original is the sensible buy. An existing owner whose hair fits comfortably has little reason to upgrade just for the Plus name.

CurlPro Plus: pay for room, not promises

Best for longer hair that fills the original chamber too easily. Its longer heating area and added plate address that limitation, although small sections still matter.

Neither the higher advertised ion count nor multi-day curl claims prove better results on your hair. We did not find controlled evidence establishing a universal advantage in speed or curl longevity. Compare the current price gap against how often you style.

Before your first use

Use dry, detangled hair and small sections; follow the supplied manual’s timing and temperature guidance. Anti-tangle detection is a safeguard, not a guarantee. If hair snags, stop and switch off before gently freeing it. The protective housing does not make a hot tool burn-proof.

Common questions

Is CurlPro Plus better for short hair?

Not automatically. A shorter section must reach the heated area to curl. The original is the more plausible starting point for medium or shorter lengths; for a chin-length bob or root-level curls, check suitability carefully before buying either.

Will Plus make looser waves?

Both selected models are 1 inch. Styling technique and brushing out cooled curls affect the finish; extra barrel length alone does not establish a larger curl diameter.
