Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro vs Buds3 Pro: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

Buds4 Pro refine the fit and controls, but the upgrade is less clear-cut than the marketing suggests. Compare independent tests, phone restrictions and the price gap.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds4 Pro vs Buds3 Pro decision is different for an owner and a first-time buyer. The 2026 model brings a redesigned fit, case and controls. It does not make a well-fitting, reliable Buds3 Pro pair obsolete.

Quick verdict: upgrade or keep what you have?

Already own Buds3 Pro? Keep them if fit, calls and battery still meet your needs. Buying your first pair? Choose Buds4 Pro when prices are close, especially with a compatible Galaxy phone. Buy Buds3 Pro when the saving is substantial. Neither is an obvious upgrade for an iPhone user or someone needing ordinary phone-and-laptop multipoint.

The differences that matter when choosing a pair
Decision pointWhat changes
Fit and handlingBuds4 Pro: 5.1g per earbud, flatter metal stems and a redesigned case. Buds3 Pro: 5.4g per earbud and the older angular stem design.
ControlsBoth have pinch/swipe controls. Buds4 Pro add head gestures on compatible Galaxy devices; Buds3 Pro retain Blade Lights.
Shared essentialsBoth offer ANC, ambient listening, two-way speakers, IP57-rated earbuds, USB-C and wireless case charging. Neither case is water-resistant.
ConnectivityBluetooth 6.1 on Buds4 Pro versus 5.4 on Buds3 Pro. This is not, by itself, a reason to replace working earbuds.

Fit and sound: the strongest reasons to consider Buds4 Pro

Samsung’s redesign matters most if the older stems or case annoy you. In her hands-on comparison, Tom’s Guide reviewer Erin Bashford found the Buds4 Pro controls easier to use and the fit comfortable. That is a useful improvement, not a guarantee they will suit every ear.

RTINGS describes the newer tuning as warm with less pronounced bass than Buds3 Pro. Samsung also enlarged the woofer’s effective area, but driver size alone does not establish better sound. If you like your existing pair after EQ adjustment, sound is a preference-led upgrade rather than a necessary replacement.

ANC and calls solve different problems

ANC reduces what you hear; microphone processing affects what callers hear. SoundGuys measured stronger Buds4 Pro cancellation below 1kHz. RTINGS, however, found little overall isolation improvement. Different tests do not support promising a dramatic upgrade in every commute or office.

Bashford preferred Buds4 Pro for suppressing office chatter, yet rated call quality a draw between generations. Better listening isolation therefore does not automatically mean better calls.

Samsung’s Super Wideband calling also depends on a supported Galaxy device and the network. Check your exact phone’s compatibility before paying for that feature. Neither generation can promise clear speech in every windy or crowded setting.

Battery life: identical claims, conflicting test results

Single-charge playback, with case totals kept separate
EvidenceBuds4 Pro versus Buds3 Pro
Samsung claim, ANC onBoth: up to 6 hours per charge; up to 26 hours including case recharges.
Samsung claim, ANC offBoth: up to 7 hours per charge; up to 30 hours including the case.
SoundGuys standardized testBuds4 Pro: 6 hours 1 minute. Buds3 Pro: 4 hours 31 minutes under like conditions.
RTINGS comparisonApproximately 6 hours of continuous playback for both; it describes battery life as nearly identical.

These tests do not establish a universal battery gain. Volume, settings, codec and battery age can change results. A deteriorated older pair may benefit more from replacement than a healthy one; do not treat the SoundGuys gap as a guaranteed extra 90 minutes.

Your phone matters more than the Bluetooth number

What Buds4 Pro buyers get on different phones
PhonePractical consequence
Compatible Samsung GalaxyBroadest integration. UHQ audio, 360 Audio and some AI/calling functions depend on the exact device and software. Head gestures require One UI 8.5 or later.
Other Android phonesGalaxy Wearable provides settings on supported Android devices, but Samsung-only extras such as UHQ audio, Super Wideband calling and head gestures are unavailable.
iPhoneBluetooth music, standard calls, ANC and ambient listening work. Galaxy Wearable is not supported on iOS, so app setup/customization and Samsung-only extras are missing.

For Buds4 Pro app configuration, Samsung currently specifies Android 12 or later and at least 1.5GB RAM. Region, app, account and software restrictions also apply; Bluetooth pairing alone does not prove feature support.

Both generations offer Samsung Auto Switch rather than general-purpose Bluetooth multipoint. Compatible Samsung devices must share the same account. If your priority is switching between a phone and an unrelated work laptop, these are not the straightforward multipoint choice.

Buds3 Pro already support high-resolution Samsung audio and Interpreter on compatible devices. Neither feature is a new reason, on its own, to buy Buds4 Pro.

Which pair should you buy today?

Choose Buds4 Pro for a new purchase with a small price gap, or to address a specific fit/control problem after checking the return policy. Choose Buds3 Pro when a substantial discount outweighs the redesign and head gestures. Compare the same condition, seller warranty and delivery cost—not a renewed older pair against a new one.

Check the current offers below rather than an old launch-price comparison. US listings can have different warranty and delivery conditions outside the US.

Two quick buying questions

Are Buds4 Pro worth upgrading from Buds3 Pro? Usually not if your current pair fits and performs well. The stronger case is fixing a daily annoyance, not collecting another Bluetooth version.

Is the ordinary Galaxy Buds4 the same product? No. This comparison and the linked listings are for the silicone-tip Pro models; standard Buds4 use an open-fit design. Check the selected model before checkout.
