The best budget smartwatches balance the features you use with the compromises you can accept. These five value picks cover fitness, larger screens, Android apps and basic calls. The right choice starts with your phone and charging routine.
Best budget smartwatches: quick picks
Start here: Active 2 for round fitness, Bip 6 for a larger screen and battery-focused use, Watch7 for Android apps and payments, CMF for round styling and dual-band GPS, or Redmi for basic alerts and calls.

| Bip 6 | Large AMOLED and battery-focused use. No Wear OS app ecosystem. |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | Round design and dual-band GPS. No NFC; do not assume pool suitability. |
| Watch7 40mm | Android apps and eligible wallet payments. No iPhone; frequent charging. |
| Redmi 5 Active | Low-cost alerts and Bluetooth calls. LCD; no built-in GPS. |
The Amazon options below identify Active 2 Black Leather Premium, CMF Dark Grey, Watch7 Green 40mm Bluetooth and Redmi Black Active. Links may route to a local store, so check the selected version before buying. Taxes, shipping, warranty and stock differ across countries; the current offer matters more than a price copied into a guide.
Amazfit Active 2: the round fitness-first choice
Amazfit Active 2 Premium. Manufacturer product image: Amazfit.
Active 2 suits a smaller, round fitness watch with offline maps and workout tools. The linked Black Leather Premium adds sapphire glass instead of the standard model’s tempered glass. Pay extra for the fit and finish, not an assumed payment feature.
Best for: round styling, maps and external Bluetooth workout sensors. Main limit: Zepp OS is not Wear OS; maps on a small screen are no substitute for a larger navigation device.
Michael Sawh’s Wareable review found usable GPS with route and distance differences against a Garmin, less convincing workout heart-rate averages and peaks, and sometimes sluggish maps. Recreational tracking and precise training-zone use are different buying decisions.
Choose Bip 6 instead if screen area matters more than round styling. For the detailed variant, GPS and payment assessment, read our Amazfit Active 2 review.
Amazfit Bip 6: the larger-screen, battery-focused alternative
Amazfit Bip 6. Manufacturer product image: Amazfit.
Bip 6 is the large-screen alternative: a rectangular AMOLED for readable notifications and maps, with a battery-focused routine. Check the footprint on your wrist rather than assuming a light case means a small watch.
Best for: built-in GPS, downloaded maps, workout templates, Bluetooth calls and external workout sensors. Main limit: no Wear OS app ecosystem or directly installed Spotify app. Typed and dictated Zepp Flow replies are Android-only.
Independent GPS findings disagree. Wareable sometimes saw distance underreporting and route wandering; steady heart rate was stronger than intervals. Paul Hatton’s two-month TechRadar review reported good results beside a Suunto Race S, including woodland use. Different routes and settings do not establish a universal accuracy winner.
Choose Active 2 if its smaller round shape and Premium materials justify the price gap. For the full accuracy and battery evidence, read our Amazfit Bip 6 review.
CMF Watch 3 Pro: design and dual-band GPS, with boundaries
CMF Watch 3 Pro in Dark Grey. Manufacturer product image: Nothing / CMF.
CMF combines a round design, rotating crown and 1.43-inch AMOLED with dual-band GPS. Dual-band reception can help in difficult environments; it is not proof of better routes than every single-band watch.
Best for: round styling, crown controls, Bluetooth calls and phone music control. Main limit: no NFC or Wear OS app store; Bluetooth earphones cannot connect directly to the watch.
Thomas Deehan’s Wareable test found quick GPS locking and heart rate close to a Garmin HRM600 chest strap at times, but lower session averages. Sleep duration matched Whoop closely in one example; that does not validate sleep stages.
Choose it when you prefer its design and its offer is competitive with Amazfit. If payments, downloadable apps or pool tracking are essential, look elsewhere: Nothing lists IP68, not a blanket swimming recommendation.
Galaxy Watch7: more smartwatch, less time away from the charger
Galaxy Watch7. Manufacturer image: Samsung Newsroom.
Watch7 suits Android users who will use Wear OS apps, richer messaging and eligible wallet payments. The supplied option is 40mm Bluetooth, Green, S/M, not 44mm or LTE. Its value depends on the saving versus a newer Samsung watch.
Best for: Android apps, dual-frequency GPS, NFC and the broader Samsung health platform. Main limit: no iPhone pairing and frequent charging. Some health functions require a compatible Galaxy phone and an approved region.
Wareable found improved but imperfect GPS and heart rate close to a chest strap in some indoor sessions, with differences elsewhere. Its review unit was 44mm; its battery experience cannot establish endurance for the linked 40mm unit.
Samsung lists Watch7 40mm and 44mm for quarterly security updates, checked 12 October 2026. Buy the discounted watch for apps or payments; skip it if charging only once a week is a requirement.
Redmi Watch 5 Active: inexpensive basics, not a cheaper Amazfit
Redmi Watch 5 Active. Manufacturer product image: Xiaomi.
Redmi Watch 5 Active covers notifications, alarms and phone-connected Bluetooth calls. Its 2-inch display is LCD, not AMOLED, and Mi Fitness supports Android and iPhone.
No built-in GPS: Xiaomi confirms that route recording uses your phone’s location. An Amazon listing title mentioning GPS does not change that hardware limitation.
Best for: basic alerts, calls and modest spending. Main limit: no full app store, payments or always-on display. Computer Bild’s lab review found exercise heart-rate errors during strong arm movement and a case that scratched relatively easily.
Buy it only when the saving over a GPS watch is substantial and you will carry your phone. Spend more if phone-free running routes are the reason you want a smartwatch.
Display, fit and durability: compare what reaches your wrist

| Watch | Decision details |
|---|---|
| Active 2 Premium | Screen: 1.32-inch AMOLED, 466 × 466; sapphire; 5ATM Fit: 43.9 × 43.9 × 9.9mm; 31.65g bare; two buttons |
| Bip 6 | Screen: 1.97-inch AMOLED, 390 × 450; 5ATM Fit: 46.3 × 40.2 × 10.45mm; 27.9g bare; two buttons |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | Screen: 1.43-inch AMOLED; 466 × 466 per Wareable; IP68 Fit: Rotating crown; large round footprint; see measurement caveat below |
| Watch7 40mm | Screen: 1.3-inch AMOLED, 432 × 432; sapphire; 5ATM/IP68 Fit: 40.4 × 40.4 × 9.7mm; 28.8g bare; two buttons |
| Redmi 5 Active | Screen: 2-inch LCD, 320 × 385; 5ATM Fit: 49.1 × 40.4 × 11.4mm; 30.6g bare; side button |
Official measurements are not fully harmonised: bare weights exclude straps, and brands exclude different protrusions. Do not rank comfort or thickness by fractions of a millimetre.
CMF reviewer measurements differ: TechRadar lists 47g with strap; Wareable lists 51g. The original official-source check did not resolve the difference, so these are not comparable bare weights.
Amazfit’s 2,000-nit figures are peak-brightness claims, not a shared outdoor test. Four watches have AMOLED always-on modes; Redmi does not. Wareable found CMF’s always-on view harder to read outdoors.
For small wrists, compare case footprint as well as screen size. Active 2 uses 20mm and Bip 6 22mm quick-release straps; verify connectors on the others. A leather strap may be less convenient for sweaty workouts.
Battery life: manufacturer claims versus independent experience
| Watch | Decision details |
|---|---|
| Active 2 | Claim: Up to 10 days typical; 5 heavy; 21h GPS Reported use: Wareable: about 4 days with AOD; over a week with restrained settings |
| Bip 6 | Claim: Up to 14 days typical; 6 heavy; 32h GPS Reported use: Wareable: roughly 10 days in mixed use; under a week with AOD |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | Claim: 13 days typical; 10.5 heavy; 4.4 with heavy use and 12h/day AOD Reported use: TechRadar: well over 4 days with features enabled |
| Watch7 40mm | Claim: Up to 40h AOD off / 30h on Reported use: No equivalent measured 40mm result in the main review; its test unit was 44mm |
| Redmi 5 Active | Claim: Up to 18 days typical / 12 heavy Reported use: Computer Bild: up to 16 days; TechPP: about a week in heavy use |
Manufacturer ratings and named review results use different settings and workloads. They are not an equal-settings five-watch endurance test.
Plan around charging, not the largest advertised number. Bip 6 is the battery-focused fitness shortlist; Watch7 trades endurance for a fuller app platform. Always-on display, GPS workouts, calls and continuous monitoring shorten time between charges.
Keep the correct charger: the Amazfit, CMF and Redmi watches need matching magnetic accessories. Bip 6 includes the charging head but not a USB-C cable; Watch7 uses its supplied wireless charger.
GPS, health and fitness: separate features from accuracy
Active 2 and Bip 6 have single-frequency onboard positioning; CMF and Watch7 have L1/L5 dual-frequency GPS. Redmi uses your phone. There is no controlled common-route test here that proves one GPS winner.
For recreational walks and runs, focus on reliable records and a usable app. For intervals, read the heart-rate tests and consider a supported chest strap; Active 2 and Bip 6 support external workout sensors. Sports-mode counts do not establish accuracy.
Heart rate, SpO₂, sleep and stress metrics are wellness information here, not diagnoses. Watch7’s ECG and blood-pressure features depend on Samsung Health Monitor, compatible phones and eligible regions; blood pressure also requires calibration.
Sleep duration agreeing with another wearable does not validate REM or deep-sleep stages. Step-count differences do not identify the accurate watch without a reference.
SWIMMING CHECK
Water resistance is not swim tracking
Active 2, Bip 6 and Watch7 are more relevant pool-workout candidates. Redmi has 5ATM resistance but Xiaomi documents no water-sport recording modes. CMF’s IP68 rating should not be treated as pool clearance. Follow each maker’s water-use limits; “50 metres” is not a diving recommendation.
Follow each manufacturer’s water-use restrictions. For unfamiliar routes, offline watch maps are useful context, not your only navigation plan.
Apps, messages and payments: what will you actually use?
For apps, choose Watch7. Wear OS supports installable watch apps and eligible offline music services. Zepp mini-apps, Nothing X and Mi Fitness are different, lighter platforms.
Bluetooth calls are not cellular independence. None of these supplied options should be bought on the assumption that LTE is included; the linked Watch7 is Bluetooth too.
Amazfit’s typed or dictated replies need supported Android apps and languages. CMF quick replies do not mean full keyboard replies in every app or on iPhone. Redmi notifications are mainly for reading.
Phone music controls are not offline Spotify. Bip 6 does not directly install third-party music apps, and CMF cannot directly pair Bluetooth earphones. Do not assume either offers the same offline music setup as Wear OS.
View payment eligibility by watch
| Watch | Decision details |
|---|---|
| Active 2 | Payments: Zepp Pay on the specific NFC round variant only Check: Exact NFC SKU; supported UK/European country and card; supplied Premium link not confirmed NFC |
| Bip 6 | Payments: Not a supported wrist-payments choice in this comparison Check: Do not infer Zepp Pay from the Zepp brand |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | Payments: Nothing explicitly says no NFC Check: No contactless-payment expectation |
| Watch7 | Payments: NFC; supported Google Wallet / Samsung payment setup Check: Watch region, wallet availability and supported bank/card |
| Redmi 5 Active | Payments: No contactless payments Check: Do not confuse it with other Redmi models |
For payments, check the exact watch SKU, country and bank/card. Zepp Pay requires a supported NFC Active 2 in eligible UK/European markets; Premium alone does not establish that. Watch7 needs an eligible Google Wallet or Samsung payment setup.
Which of these smartwatches works best with your phone?
| Watch | Decision details |
|---|---|
| Active 2 / Bip 6 | Requires: Android 7+ / iOS 14+ via Zepp Limits: Works across platforms; Android reply features do not transfer to iPhone |
| CMF Watch 3 Pro | Requires: Android 6+ / iOS 13+ via Nothing X Limits: Check platform-specific notification/reply behaviour |
| Watch7 | Requires: Android 11+, Google Mobile Services, more than 1.5GB RAM Limits: No iPhone; Health Monitor has additional Galaxy-phone requirements |
| Redmi 5 Active | Requires: Android 8+ / iOS 12+ via Mi Fitness Limits: Basic alerts and calls; not an Apple Watch-style app platform |
The table gives the published device requirements from the original research. Check current companion-app requirements too; future app versions may stop supporting older phones.
iPhone: Amazfit, CMF and Redmi can cover fitness or basic notifications, but they do not provide the native Apple Watch app and messaging experience. If that is your priority, compare Apple Watch SE 3 before choosing one of these five. Apple currently lists iPhone 11 or later with iOS 27 or later for SE 3. Android: choose the longer-battery fitness watches or Watch7’s richer apps. Galaxy integration adds phone- and region-specific health requirements.
Before you keep it: comfort, syncing and support
Owner accounts mention sync, calls, sleep records, app permissions and cosmetic wear. They are useful return-period checks, not representative durability studies or failure rates.
There is no consistent five-model dataset here for battery degradation, hardware failure or support end dates. Samsung’s published security list gives a concrete support signal for Watch7.
During the return period, test overnight comfort, a workout, notifications, calls and syncing after the phone locks. Check background permissions and your usual strap fit.
Which one offers the best value at its current price?
The budget bands below are decision budgets, not live Amazon prices. Compare the exact variant, seller, delivery, warranty and consumable or accessory costs before choosing the lowest offer.
View the budget decision table
| Your budget | Decision details |
|---|---|
| Very tight budget, roughly US$50 or equivalent | Compare: Redmi for basics, if the offer fits Consider: Pay more only if a missing capability matters |
| Around US$100 or equivalent | Compare: Bip 6, standard Active 2 and CMF Consider: Check offers; no fixed US$100 claim |
| US$150 to US$200, or local equivalent | Compare: Watch7 on sale versus a fitness watch Consider: Apps and payments must justify charging and cost |
| Premium close to a newer model | Compare: Compare the newer model and support Consider: Old stock should deliver a clear saving |
Active 2 vs Bip 6: pay more for the smaller round footprint and Premium materials only if they matter on your wrist. Maps are not exclusive to Active 2. Bip 6 makes more sense when it costs clearly less and you prefer the bigger screen.
For Watch7, the saving versus a newer watch should justify its older hardware and charging routine. See our newer Galaxy Watch comparison for upgrade context; Watch7 does not gain those newer features.
Budget smartwatch FAQs
What is the best smartwatch under $100?
Compare current offers for Bip 6, standard Active 2 and CMF. The supplied Premium Active 2 variant is not promised below $100. Redmi suits a lower budget when calls and alerts matter more than onboard GPS.
Which of these watches has the best battery life?
Bip 6 is the battery-focused fitness shortlist. Redmi can also last longer by offering fewer demanding features. Different review settings prevent a fair absolute endurance ranking.
Which budget smartwatch has the best GPS?
There is no controlled five-watch GPS winner here. Active 2, Bip 6, CMF and Watch7 have onboard positioning; Redmi does not. Dual-frequency GPS is a capability, not an accuracy guarantee.
Which works with both Android and iPhone?
Active 2, Bip 6, CMF and Redmi support both through their companion apps, with platform-specific limits on replies. Watch7 needs Android. For native iPhone apps and messaging, also consider Apple Watch SE 3.
Do these affordable watches support contactless payments?
Watch7 is the strongest payments candidate in this shortlist, subject to region and bank support. Active 2 needs the specific eligible NFC variant; NFC is unconfirmed for the supplied Premium link. Bip 6, CMF and Redmi are not wrist-payment picks.
Research notes
Original five-watch research checked 3 October 2026. Buying guide revised 12 October 2026; Apple SE 3 compatibility and Samsung Watch7 security support rechecked on that date. Independent test results remain attributed to the original reviewers. Decively has not physically tested these watches.
